Miscellany Monday

miscellany monday at lowercase letters

1.
My 6 year old is a hoarder. She loves to save EVERYTHING & it drives me bananas. Her room was OOC so Saturday morning, we deep cleaned that little lady's room.

Before:
(yikes!)

2 bags of garbage & a bag full of Goodwill donations later...

After:

We are going to get rid of her kitchen set & little folding table. It is time for a big girl desk! I have been scouring Craig's List for an old desk that I can paint. I love the look of the ombre drawers! Addy flipped when she saw the pink one so that's what we are gonna do!

2.
Why, oh why, does Katie have her crazy cakes smile on?

Because it was ladies night! YAY! We celebrated my sweet friend, Tonn's, birthday with lots & lots of sushi! Mmm, I want a Blue Flame roll right now.

It was so nice to get to celebrate Tonn & just visit with these ladies. I don't see them as much as I'd like & I miss them!

3.
I have been busy lately taking lots of pictures for lots of sweet clients. Taking pictures makes my heart happy. Here are a few of my favorites lately. You can check out my FB page here if you'd like to see what I am up to!

4.
Judging by my current favorite playlist, I have the musical taste of a 16 year old.

InstaFriday & Friday Finds.

Happy Friday!

I love me some instagram. Are you on instagram?  Find me - mrs_lacy!

Monday was my friend Adrienne's birthday so I made her a cake to celebrate with at small group! It was fun to make - I think I am going to do it every time we have a birthday in our small group!

I made Iowa Girl Eats Sweet Corn Quinoa with Honey Lemon Vinaigrette for dinner one night this week. It was fantastic! Highly recommend.

Yesterday was a cloudy, stormy morning. I loved seeing the sun peek through the clouds after I dropped Addy off at school.

It rained off & on in the morning & cleared up around lunch time. When I was headed to go pick Addy up, this is the gorgeous sky I found.

Friday Finds

I read this article by Jon Acuff & thought it was a great message. It is something that I have become increasingly aware of since the boom of social media.

John Mayer posted the video of his new single, Shadow Days. Yay for new JM! Sad he cancelled his spring tour but hopefully he is getting better. I've seen him a couple times but my favorite time was in 2010. It was SO hot but so much fun!

My sweet hubby is turning 30 this July so we are in the beginning stages of planning a Vegas trip. It's fun getting to look up new restaurants to try when we go! Please tell me I am not the only one who daydreams about food I won't consume for 3 months? Ha! If you have any can't miss restaurants in Vegas, let me know!

I am in love with this look for one of our nights in Vegas!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Strawberry Bread!

Over the weekend, we picked up 2 pounds of strawberries for $2.50! That is a great deal. I LOVE that strawberries are in season! Since we had so many, I decided to make some strawberry bread for the first time.

I followed this recipe but omitted the pecans & added 4 teaspoons of brown sugar. I read that brown sugar helps keep it moist!

It made more than my loaf pan could hold so I made a 1/2 dozen muffins as well. I just baked them for 20 minutes & let the bread continue to bake. They were perfect in muffin form as well!

What I'm Lovin' Wednesday

Hola! Here's what I am lovin' on this Wednesday.

1.
Have you heard of All Sons & Daughters? They are a fantastic Christian duo & their music is amazing. I just downloaded their album & this song is on constant repeat. It's so good! If you are looking for a new worship album, check them out.

2.
I meant to post on Monday about our weekend but blogger wouldn't load for me.

Saturday morning, I attended a baby shower for my sweet friend, Rachel. She is going to have her 4th baby this July. It was so much fun to get to see her. She looks AMAZING!

Saturday afternoon, we decided to take the kiddos bowling. It was so much fun! I felt like Drew really got it this time.

We did boys vs. girls. I won't say who won but I will say they used the pink bowling ball. Ha!

After bowling, we headed to Chick-fil-a for chicken nuggies. Did you know that the kiddos can trade their toy in for a free ice cream cone?

Addy kept saying it was the best day ever -- even better than going to Disneyland. Good to know - bowling & chicken nuggets are a looooooot cheaper than D-Land!

3.
I made salsa over the weekend & its already gone. It was A LOT of salsa but we literally put it on everything -- breakfast, lunch, & dinner! Mmm, so good! I need to make some more STAT.

A few ladies asked for the recipe so I thought I'd post it.

Katie's Amazing, Fantastic, Phenomenal Salsa
-2 cans of fire roasted tomatoes
-2 whole tomatoes
-one red onion
-whole bunch of cilantro
-small can of jalapenos (it was pretty hot - you could sub green chiles for a milder taste!)
-2 tablespoons of garlic
-couple dashes of garlic salt

Put everything into the food processor & pulse until you have the consistency you like!

I tried these chips with the salsa & they were actually pretty amazing. A serving size of regular taco chips were 10 chips = 4 WW points. For the same point value, you could have 27 chips. I'll take 27, please!

4.
I got this maxi at Target last week & I love, love, love it. The racerback makes it so comfy! Hate when all maxi dresses are tube tops.

I am actually wearing this dress in the picture up top at the shower!

Happy Wednesday!

Spring Break - Part Dos {San Diego Zoo}

Yeesh, its been over a month! What is my deal?! Gotta get better at posting!

Many, many moons ago, our family took a trip to the San Diego Zoo. It was actually a month ago when we were in the great state of CA for Spring Break. Jason & I debated between taking the kiddos to Sea World or the zoo. We have done Sea World before so we decided on the zoo! Such a great choice - the zoo is gorgeous!

Mimi & Papa loved the idea of going to the zoo so we made it a whole fam bam "adbenture" day!

We started our day by checking out some monkeys, naturally.

I know I am her momma, but gosh, she is so pretty. I love her little face!

We headed over toward the Panda Trek because Mimi knew the lines can get long there. We waited maybe 5 minutes before we got to see the cute little black & white bear!

We told the kiddos that they could pick one souvenir & they both picked baby pandas!

Holding a real elephant tusk!

We took the sky ride (SO MUCH FUN!) up to the polar bear exhibit. They were so neat to watch! If you click to make the picture strip below bigger, you can see the polar bear going for a duck. That was fun to see! (Ducky survived!)

They had a lot of fun things for the kiddos to crawl through. They loved getting to climb on this expedition helicopter!

I could not get over how long the polar bears necks were! The polar bears themselves were huge.

My favorite part of the whole zoo was getting to watch the gorillas! They were so neat to see! There was definitely a "Big Poppa" of all of them & when he came around, the others got out of his way!

We got to see hippos! That was a ton of fun! Did you know they stay something like 23 hours a day in the water? Their stumpy little legs can't keep up with their weight so they float & swim in the water all day. We got to see a momma & her baby & the baby was nursing under water. Could you imagine?!

We had SUCH a great time at the zoo! The weather was perfect & just made the day even better!

We decided to fill our bellies with some yummy mexican food so we voted to go to Old Town Mexican Cafe. Get this -- it's a mexican cafe & its in Old Town San Diego. How easy is that to remember? Ha!

The food there is amazing - the tortillas & beans & chips & salsa & enchiladas...its all good. Everything is so, so good! I recommend it highly if you are ever in San Diego!

They had mariachi guys walking around so we had them stop & sing La Paloma. Addison thought it was the neatest thing that we were getting sung to.

This video makes me smile - I love that you can hear my dad do the little "yi yi yi".

I saw a few tips on another blog about going to the zoo so I thought I'd give a few as well!

  • The zoo is super hilly. Lots of up & down canyons which makes for a gorgeous atmosphere but you need to wear good shoes. I chose comfort over cuteness & I am so glad I did. My feet didn't hurt at all!
  • You can take food & drinks in. We packed our own lunch & ate under some beautiful shades trees. Saved us a lot of $$$!
  • Take the double decker bus ride. We did it at the beginning of the day so it helped us get a feel of the layout & see what animals we really wanted to go back & see up close.
  • It is pricey to get in but if you have the chance, go! It is a neat zoo & it absolutely gorgeous!
